Vocation BA (Croatian lang. and lit.)
Professional Grade senior curator (ret.)
Field of work The postal and telecom heritage
Particular specialisation Philately, post and telecom collection, education
Home institution HT Museum - Croatian Post and Telecommunication Museum
Kata Šutalo was born in 1947 in the village of Krasno at the foot of Velebit, and there she spent the first years of her childhood. Later with her parents she moved to Požega, where she had her secondary school education, and took a degree in Croatian language and literature from the Faculty of Philosophy of Zagreb University. From 1972 she taught Croatian in a secondary school in Kutina.
From 1894 she was employed in the Post and Telecommunications Museum in Zagreb (founded in 1953) and worked in it until her retirement in 2005.
After her arrival in the museum in 1985, she was an independent officer in the library, and worked on matters of inventorying the postal material. When she took the national exam for curator, as well as the library, she ran the philately, telecommunications and postal collection. Since this museum has a specifically statutorily defined status, there is no need for acquisition work in the field, rather, material must be supplied to the Museum. Before her arrival, the museum was practically closed to the public. To her great credit, she put a lot of effort into opening the museum, and in 1998 published an article in Informatica Museologica entitled Why the PTT Museum in Zagreb was not open to the public - to accompany the 45th anniversary of the museum.
From 1994 she was manager of this museum, and authored numerous exhibitions, including one from 1997, at which the exchanges were presented to the public for the first time.
She took part with numerous papers at conferences and symposia, wrote specialised studies, forewords for catalogues and articles for specialised journals and publications. She wrote the monograph 50 Years of Postal and Telecommunications Museum in Zagreb, 1953-2003. She retired in 2005.
