Mihovil Vojnović was born in the village of Duce by Omiš. He went to high school in Split, and acquired a history major BA from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb in 1961. From 1962 to 1969 he worked as a teacher in the village of Lećevici.
From 1969 he was curator in the Museum of the People’s Revolution, Split, curator of the Three-Dimensional Objects Collection. This museum was opened to the public in 1980, on Split Liberation Day. For the permanent display, Vojnović worked out the museological conception and a scenario for the period from the capitulation of Italy in September 1943 until the end of World War II, in which he treated 21 thematic units.
In collaboration with other curators he worked on almost all the exhibitions: Tito in Dalmatia; Split Great Days of Freedom; Foundation of the First People’s government; Yugoslav Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War; 4th Split Assault Brigade; Split 1941-1945. Together with co-author Tatjana Kovač, he published the book Commemorating the Revolution, in which there are descriptions of all the memorials dedicated to events from the history of the working class movement. This was published by the Institute for the History of the Working Class Movement of Dalmatia.
He was a member of the Committee for the making of a new museum display of the 2nd Session of AVNOJ in Jajce. From 1992 he was employed in Split Municipal Museum, where he worked on selecting and arranging material that with the abolition of the Museum of the People’s Revolution went to Split Municipal Museum.
He is one of the authors of the exhibition Split 1991; he is also author of the study List and Condition of Memorial Markings Erected from 1945 to 1994 for the city authority of Split. He also takes part in arranging information about Split mayors from 1940 to 1990.
He authored the exhibition Emigration from Dalmatia, 1996; Croatian National Revival in Split, 1998; and Democratic Exhibitions in Split 1990-2000. For his work he received commendations from SUBNOR and from the city of Split.
