Anica Ribičić-Županić was born in Zagreb, in 1947; she attended the 5th High School, and took a BA in art history and French at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. She was educated also in Paris, Munich, Istanbul. She took a degree in French at the Sorbonne, and spent two years in the Ecole du Louvre.
While a student she worked as a tour guide in European countries, and after her degree worked as a research fellow in Baroque painting in the area of the Gorica archdeaconry, and taught art history in the 7th High School, Zagreb. Since 1979, employed as curator in the European Ivory and Textile Collection in Mimara Museum, in which she organises national and international exhibitions, looks after museum teaching, editing museum publications and PR. She obtained the rank of senior curator in 1986, and by a decision of the Ministry of Culture was appointed museum adviser in 1995.
She obtained her MA with a dissertation on Baroque Easel Painting in the Gorica Archdeaconry in 1976. She spent study periods in Switzerland, Austria, Turkey and France, which enabled her to make good contacts with foreign experts and to obtain further training in the discipline. She has authored some forty domestic and foreign exhibitions, has authored 12 set ups for exhibitions, edited several museum publications, guides, catalogues and creative workshops. She has taken an active part in 27 conferences and symposia at home and abroad. She has for a long time been an active member of the CMA and ICOM and a member of the CMC at the time the new Museums Law was passed.
She is the author of scientific research projects from the area of art history, of many scholarly and specialised publications and articles, international and national exhibitions, coordinator of projects for museum education and communication and special programmes meant for the visually challenged and the blind and deaf-mute persons.
