Ante Rendić-Miočević was born in Split in 1943, and there attended elementary school and classics high school, completing this education, however, in Zagreb. He took a degree from the Faculty of Philosophy of Zagreb University in 1969, having read art history and archaeology. As trainee archaeologist, he got a job in the Archaeology Museum in Split. After having taken the national professional exam in 1973 he was employed in the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb as curator, up to 1979, then as senior curator, and in 1986 acquired the rank of museum adviser. Along with his work in the Antiquity Department he was also manager of the Egyptian Collection. In 1984 he was appointed to the position of director of the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.
Since student days he had taken part in many excavations, and had led teams, taken part in the excavations in Narona, Solin, Škrip, Prozor. He was a participant in many international conferences at home and abroad.
He was author or co-author of exhibition projects, including Heritage of Croatian Museums - Archaeological Museum in Zagreb in Arezzo and Turin, and author of the exhibition marking the century and a half of the existence of the Archaeology Museum entitled Muzeopis.
His bibliography includes many writings of various contents, including museology, the problems of Greek and Roman provincial sculpting, cult monuments of domestic deities. He authored numerous forewords, op-ed articles and TV screenplays. He is a member of the editorial board of various specialised journals, and for many years edited the museum journal Vjesnik Arheološkog muzeja u Zagreb.
He has been a member of the Croatian Museum Council, Commission for Writing the Museum Law, many other commissions, and the Managing Council of the Croatian History Museum, and since 2002 has been a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Berlin.
His work has won him the Order of the Croatian Daystar with Figure of Marko Marulić.
In 2008. was awarded by Croatian Museum Association with „Pavao Ritter Vitezović“ award for a lifetime achievement.
