Ljubica Ramušcak was born in Čakovec in 1941. She took a BA (art history) and ethnology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. Her entire career was spent in the Museum of Međimurje in Čakovec, as curator of the Ethnographic Department, manager of the Art Gallery, museum adviser and director of the Museum. From 1991 to 1993, for family reasons, she moved to Zagreb. In this period she worked in the MGZ - Museum Gallery Centre - in Zagreb, putting on a number of large projects of national and international significance.
In her home museum, as well as regular activity (work in the field, research, acquisition and study, conservation and preservation of museum material, scholarly and specialised works) she initiated a new museological conceptions for the permanent display of the Museum of Međimurje according to the contemporary requirements of the museum profession.
In the area of ethnology, this museum approaches the French type of eco-museum. As director, she carried out the renovation and revitalisation of the Čakovec Castle, a monument of culture, in which the Museum of Međimurje is located, and the Chapel of St Jelena (Helen) in Šenkovec (putting the interior in order, conservation of frescos and tradesmen’s works). As manager of the Gallery she initiated numerous thematic and retrospective exhibitions of fine artists from Međimurje. She is the author of numerous catalogues, forewords to exhibition catalogues, and the guide to the permanent display.
For her work, she was rewarded with the Republic Prize of the Order of Croatian Pleter –-Interlacing.
