Mira Heim was born in Vinkovci in 1928, and attended high school there. She took a history degree from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. Since she could not find work in Zagreb, together her husband, Mira Heim moved to Labin, working as a teacher in the high school in Labin. After several years, she went back to Zagreb, and taught in the Commerce School.
Since she had previously made the acquaintance of founder of MDC Dr Antun Bauer, she responded to his invitation and got a job in the MDC at the time when it became independent and moved to its quarters at Mesnicka 5, Zagreb.
At the very beginning of the work of the MDC, apart from Bauer, as well as auxiliary staff and occasional volunteers, she was the only professional employee.
She is much to be credited for her devoted and meticulous work in the organisation of the MDC library, which she ran according to the rules of the profession, with manual filling of the catalogue cards (at that time the MDC had but a single typewriter).
The card cabinet that she organised for the MDC Library, even today, in spite of the contemporary processing of the database, is kept in its original form at the MDC.

NB. Data taken from the questionnaire, material taken from the Personnel Archives of the MDC, and from an interview recorded on June 1, 2006.
